Man City close to losing Cavani transfer as Chelsea and United join race

Posted on June 25, 2013 by Admin

The transfer rumours linking Manchester City with the summer signing of Edinson Cavani from Napoli have gone a bit quiet recently, and today there are stories in the media that both Chelsea and Manchester United are preparing offers for the Uruguayan international.

Maybe the problem is the price, because his Serie A club are insisting that anybody who wants him will have to meet the release clause of over £50 million. It appears that no club has done that yet, although Chelsea are ready to offer just less than £50 million, according to The Independent. The Sun has reported that Moyes wants the United owners to get Cavani for him, especially if Wayne Rooney is to be sold.

The striker, meanwhile, seems to prefer a move to Real Madrid, but he is concerned that his release clause will scupper any chances of getting a move. Cavani has two more games of the Confederations Cup to play, but after the weekend, with the transfer window officially open, he is planning to jet back to Italy to talk with the Napoli president and maybe get him to listen to lower offers.

Maybe then we will find out if Pellegrini is really interested in the powerful striker or not. I would hate to see him sign for a Premier League rival, especially the red mob down the road, so if he is not coming to City, hopefully it will be Madrid.
