Man City must beware of wounded United as Moyes stirs his players up

As great as it is to see Manchester City with a powerful team fighting to become Premier League champions and also doing well in the Champions League, the fact that our neighbours Man United have slumped since David Moyes took over from Ol’ Red Nose and are in danger of missing out on Europe altogether makes it so much sweeter.

So to hear Manuel Pellegrini and Fernandinho, as reported by ESPN, talking about United’s woes is great, but Vity must be ready to face a wounded and angry beast at OLd Trafford tonight. As long as the players know this and are not taken by surprise, there is no reason why we cannot get another win over them and make ourselves firm favourites for the title.

Fernandinho said, “It was the first time I’d played them after joining City. It’s a club with a lot of history, with very good players, they were the champions – so I was surprised at how badly they played that day and how easily we won.

“We will go there expecting to win but we know that in a derby a lot of things can happen.”

However, because City already have a bigger goal difference, 49, than Liverpool, 44, and Chelsea, 39, and games in hand on both, a draw at Old Trafford would not be too bad a result. So I would like to see Pellegrini send out a team that is, first and foremost, hard to beat. I expect United to be fired up by criticism and boosted by a win in their last game, so we need to weather that early storm before being too adventurous ourselves.

Moyes has already tried to sting his players into action, as reported by ESPN, by suggesting that Pellegrini has shown them disrespect in his comments and suggested that United have more class. He obviously does not remember Fergie then.
