Man City MUST take advantage of Bayern’s slow start

Posted on October 01, 2013 by Admin

It seems it me like one of the big reasons for Manchester City replacing Roberto Mancini with Manuel Pellegrini this summer was the Champions League. While City have been awful in it for the last two seasons, Pellegrini has worked wonders with Villareal and Malaga.

The Chilean manager may even be prioritising the competition over the Premier League. So I am expecting us to pull out all the stops tomorrow when the European cup holders Bayern Munich come to the Etihad. Will we really care too much about the disappointing turnaround at Aston Villa if we can beat Bayern? I won’t for one. Neither will our defender Micah Richards.

The right back said, “We started off with a good win away and we are at home now so hopefully we can get another good result, but it’s massive for the club now.

“We won the Premier League, or scraped it by goal difference, and now we want to improve every year and it’s important that we do that in the Champions League.”

It is a good time to face the Germans as well. When I say they have had a slow start, it is by their very high standards. They have not been beaten in the Bundesliga yet, but they lost the German super cup to Dortmund and only beat Wolfsburg at home by the narrowest of margins at the weekend. They also changed their coach in the summer, to Guardiola, and reports from Germany suggest that it is taking time for the players to get used to his methods.

We need to get at then right from the start of the game tomorrow. With the likes of Aguero, Navas, Toure, Fernandinho, Zabaleta, Kompany and more, City are filled with top quality and experience enough to get the job done, and a win would finally banish talk of the last two years. It would also let City go into the double header against CSKA Moscow with the confidence of progressing from the group.
