Man City to fight Chelsea for Bayern striker Gomez

Posted on June 07, 2013 by Admin

The latest transfer target to be linked with a move to Manchester City this summer is the Bayern Munich and Germany striker Mario Gomez. The 27-year old has cut a frustrating figure with the German champions this season, having to watch from the sidelines much more than he would like as Mario Mandzukic was generally preferred to him.

With the arrival of the former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola, Gomez will be concerned about his future and will want some assurances that he is a big part of Bayern’s future plans. City are apparently ready to step in if the talented forward decides he wants to move on, but Jose Mourinho and Chelsea are also keen on signing him, according to ESPN.

There has also been strong interest with a number of Serie A clubs keen, but it is thought that Gomez would prefer a transfer to the English Premier League. Gomez is a fantastic striker with a great record for club and country. He would be the ideal replacement for Edin Dzeko, who still seems to want to leave the Etihad for some reason.

Apparently, Gomez and his representatives are due to have talks with officials from Bayern Munich next week in order to determine his future. With Pellegrini due to be announced next week, this transfer, if it is done, could be the first one organised by the Chilean coach, whereas the Navas and Fernandinho transfers seem to have been in the pipeline for months.
