Mourinho mind games show he is scared of Man City

Manchester City travel to London today aiming to become the first team to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, at least while Jose Mourinho has been in charge of the club. It is a phenomenal record, but you would think it would give the Portuguese manager plenty of confidence, and it usually does, but I get the feeling he is worried about the visit of City today.

Mourinho has tried to get some sort of antagonistic mind game going with Pellegrini, and when he does that it is usually with a big rival. He has done it before with Wenger, Ferguson, Guardiola and others, but not with the lesser teams, so City should take it as a compliment. The Chelsea boss does not have a lot to work with, other than that he took over at Real Madrid from the Chilean.

Mourinho said, “Second place is just the first loser. If Madrid were to fire me, I wouldn’t go to Malaga. I’d go to a top level team in Italy or England.”

Pellegrini replied, “I never get involved in the moment and I will not get involved now.

“I don’t know him. He worked in Spain, I worked in another club.

“We played Real Madrid against Malaga, nothing more. I don’t have any complaints about him.”

Is that really the best you can do Jose? Pellegrini is doing the right thing to refuse to get into a war of words, so I will answer for him. Pellegrini may have come second in La Liga, but he only got one season at it and recorded a club record of 96 points, which is better than Mourinho did in his first season. Also, with Malaga Pellegrini worked wonders, qualifying for the Champions League and getting to the quarter-finals. They were knocked out by eventual finalists Borussia Dortmund and a dodgy ref who allowed to offside goals in the last few minutes to rob Malaga. Dortmund then went on to hammer Mourinho’s Real Madrid in the semi-final.

Oh, and one last thing Jose, Pellegrini IS at a top level English club, and they are coming to shut your flapping mouth. Chelsea may have an impressive home record, but they have not looked great this season. City are going for the third away win in a row, and if we can produce another performance like against Moyes’ United, I am confident we will spoil Jose’s record today.
