PSG join race for Man City transfer target Cavani

Posted on July 02, 2013 by Admin

There is no doubt that Manchester City can afford Edinson Cavani, despite the massive release clause of over £50 million in his contract with the Serie A club Napoli. That is not the only obstacle standing in the way of capturing the big Uruguayan striker, however, as the list of top European clubs after his signature continues to grow.

The latest to declare their interest are not short of a bob or two, either. Paris Saint-Germain, and their new coach Laurent Blanc, want to push on in the Champions League as well as defending their French title, and Cavani is seen as a good way of doing that. With Chelsea and Real Madrid already strong contenders for the striker’s signature, Pellegrini will face a tough battle if he really wants Cavani at the Etihad.

I personally feel that we should be looking elsewhere. Not that Cavani is not a good striker, his goal tally for Napoli over the last three years is truly incredible, but he is not necessarily the player we need. I would prefer Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund, who is an all-round player who links up brilliantly with the players around him and is quicker than Cavani.

City are likely to face strong competition for any of our transfer targets, but that is what you get when you want the best.
