Silva return could be key to Manchester City beating Bayern Munich

I don’t think I will be supplying any new information when I say that Manchester City have a tough job on their hands in beating Bayern Munich, but nothing worth doing is easy, and Pep Guardiola’s team will not be expecting an easy game either, and the return if David Silva to the starting line-up could just be the boost we need to take all three points.

To be honest, City have played better in the harder games so far this season, seeming to save the best performances for the hardest tests. Hopefully that trend will continue, and Manuel Pellegrini has vowed to go for the jugular rather than trying to play a cagey game. That is where Silva’s ability to unlock a defence will come in, because Bayern had a very mean defence last season, and they will keep possession and defend as a unit.

Silva has recovered from a thigh injury that has seen him miss a few games, but I expect Pellegrini to throw him straight back into the action, and he looks like being joined by Sergio Aguero, adding pace and guile to the power of Dzeko or Negredo. I think the team is more balanced with those two in it and hopefully we will have enough to get a famous win.

Last season, the German’s joined an elite group of teams to win a continental treble. They also added a few excellent players, but they are adjusting to the new style of Guardiola, so might not be quite so well drilled as last year, at least not yet.
