The former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has been speaking a lot about his former club, including his continued feeling that he should not have been sacked, but he has no hard feelings towards the man who took over his position at the Etihad stadium, Manuel Pellegrini.

The search for a striker or two to replace Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli at Manchester City is proving to be a lot more difficult that expected. One of the major problems is that all the top strikers are wanted by a large number of clubs, and everybody seems to have a lot of money to spend.

It seems crazy, but Manchester City could be on the verge of selling Carlos Tevez to AC Milan, leaving the club with just two established first team strikers in Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko. Of course, it is about time that the young Swedish striker John Guidetti got his chance in the team, but until he is proven in the Premier League, City cannot rely on just Aguero and Dzeko.

One of the biggest problems facing the manager of a big club like Manchester City is managing the squad, as Roberto Mancini is all too aware. This is about the time of year when players or their agents, or both, start looking around for possible moves or trying to persuade their current clubs to keep them or offer them a better or an extended contract. We know that the owners of Manchester City are not short of a bob or two, and are happy to invest money into the club. However, Sheikh Mansour will not be allowed to spend what he wants to with the new Financial Fair Play rules coming in, so the club will have to be more careful about it’s recruitment policy.

I don’t really put much faith in players being dubbed the African Neymar or the Japanese Messi, because they are not the same, but it does usually give the indication that they are well thought of and have stood out. One such player is currently playing for French side Saint-Etienne in Ligue 1 and is getting a lot of a attention from Premier League clubs including Manchester City.

Officials at Manchester City may have thought they had seen the last of this sort of thing when Mario Balotelli joined AC Milan at the end of January, but another City striker is in hot water now, and could end up going to prison.

It is widely believed that Roberto Mancini has the name of Edinson Cavani at the top of his summer shopping list. The Manchester City boss has long been an admirer of the powerful Uruguayan international striker, and the January sale of Mario Balotelli has left him with a hole to fill in the team.
