Pellegrini let Man City down by blaming referee 0

Posted on February 19, 2014 by Admin

It was gutting to see things go wrong for Manchester City last night, especially the late Barcelona goal scored by Dani Alves that makes a turnaround at the Nou Camp so much more difficult. But what was just as painful, for me, was to see Manuel Pellegrini blame it all on the Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson.

Manuel Pellegrini may have the best and strongest squad in the Premier League, but any team in the world would be worried about losing the considerable talents of Sergio Aguero. Kun has been pretty awesome ever since he came to the Etihad from La Liga side Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011, but he has really stepped up a gear this season.

Any of the many rivals hoping that Manchester City may have slipped up on their trip to White Hart Lane to face a Tottenham side in resurgent form under new boss Tim Sherwood will have been sorely disappointed. City were imperious and put City to the sword with no mercy(see video below).

France international midfielder Samir Nasri is widely believed to have been one of the players whose strained relationship with Roberto Mancini eventually led to the Italian’s sacking last season. Nasri certainly drove Mancini mad at times, with effort and performance levels way below those we saw at Arsenal and in his first season at the Etihad.

Manuel Pellegrini was clearly delighted that Manchester City came away from the Hawthorns with all three points after beating a string West Brom side 3-2. A lot of the talk surrounding City recently has been about the away form holding back the title push, because City have been destroying teams at home and scoring for fun, with 28 goals scored in the last six games at the Etihad.

When Manchester City qualified for the next round of the Champions League before the latest international break, it was a great step for the club and the players, and it will have taken a lot of pressure off and allowed Manuel Pellegrini to focus more on catching up to Arsenal in the Premier League.

It sounds like an April fool, but it is November. Manchester City are today being linked with what would surely be the biggest transfer in the history of world football, for the best player in the world Lionel Messi. There is a growing feeling that the Argentine international is not only the best at the minute, but the best ever, eclipsing superstars like Pele and Maradona.

Even though Manchester City have failed to get out of the group stages of the Champions League for two years in a row, the manager of their opponents tonight is not taking them lightly and has declared them to be one of the strongest teams in the competition. And Pep Guardiola certainly knows what he is talking about, having won the competition twice in his first three years as manager of Barcelona.

There is a saying in football that it is sometimes better to be a lucky manager than a good one. Manchester City will have their fingers crossed today that Manuel Pellegrini finally brings some luck to the club when the draw for the Champions League group stages is made this evening.
