They are desperate to make the champion’s league this year, having just missed out while winning the Europa league last season. That is why they are determined to hold on to their star striker in January, although Manchester City have been told that he will be for sale next summer.

There might never be a better time for Roberto Mancini and Manchester City to record a famous victory over Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, a feat only managed twice by an English side.
